British Virgin Islands Weather
BVI weather seldom changes throughout the year with the
mean temperature varying by only 2-3 degrees Fahrenheit between the summer
and winter.
In the winter, the temperature ranges from 80
to 90 degree, with southeasterly trade winds averaging between 12 to 20
knots. The nights drop down to a very comfortable 75 to 80 degrees and
sleeping with a blanket is normal. The trade winds blow consistently
through out the day and night with little change. Some rainfall is
expected every few days but rarely last for more than 10 or 15 minutes.
During the summer, temperatures are in the low 80's to mid 90's and the
wind swings around to the east and declines to 10 to 18 knots. The
surface water remains in the 80's and underwater visibility can be
over 100 feet.
In September and October, when the trades are
weakest, the weather tends to be slightly more unsettled with a higher
chance of rain fall. These showers tend to last for 15-20 minutes and occur
late in the afternoon. During the hurricane season that tends to
stretch from mid August through late October, the winds can be much lighter
as disturbances in other parts of the Caribbean can pull the wind from
our area. This condition tends to last for only a day or two at a
time. Should a hurricane hit the islands while you are on your holiday,
North South would recall you to our base where the boats would ride out
the storm. In all the past cases of hurricanes in the Territory, our
customers have missed only one night on their boats and have received compensation
for any lost time.
